Alvis Rose Christian

Wilson - Funeral Services for Mrs. Alvis Rose (Kyle) Christian, 91, of Newport are scheduled for 10:00 am Tuesday Nov. 10, 2015 at Alexander Funeral Home Chapel of Wilson with Rev. Royce McClendon officiating. Interment will follow at the Newport Cemetery north of Lone Grove.

Alvis was born on August 27, 1924 at Deese to the late Mr. Oscar L. Kyle and Mrs. Mima Elizabeth (Minter) Kyle. She went to be with the Lord on November 8, 2015 at her home.

Alvis was raised at Deese attending school there in a 1 room schoolhouse. She later attended school at Plainview before marrying Mr. J.C. Christian on Dec. 14, 1940 at Springer. They made their home in Deese, moving to Newport in 1964. Newport has been their home for over 50 years.

Alvis was always a devoted housewife and homemaker. She loved to bake and garden. She and J.C. had 64 wonderful years together and he preceded her in death on June 7, 2005.

Alvis was a great prayer warrior . She received many phone calls asking her to start a prayer chain. This was a great work for the Lord. She was an active member of the Stobtown Free Will Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband J.C. also preceding her in death were her Parents; three children; Jay Eugene, Carolyn Jay and Nancy Elaine; brothers, Asa, Finis, Othel, Opie, George and Gene Kyle; sisters, Beulah Johnson and Oneta Ford and son in law, Tommy Higgins.

Survivors include her 3 sons, Jerry Christian and wife Ann of Newport, Billy Christian and wife Susan and Nathan Christian and wife Shirley, both of Lone Grove; daughter, Rosmary Christian Higgins of Lone Grove; She is also survived by her grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces , nephews and a host of friends.

Casket Bearers are Grandsons and Great Grandsons.

Memorial donations in Lieu of flowers are encouraged to be made to the Newport Cemetery Fund, Children's Shelter or Cross Timbers Hospice.

Family visitation will be held from 7pm to 8 pm Monday Evening, Nov. 9, 2015 at Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.
