Bettie Joe Davis

Bettie Joe Davis was born June 30, 1931 to the late Richard Alva Mayes and Martha Mae (Henson) Mayes in Wilson, OK. She passed away Monday, September 17, 2008 at her home in Wilson.

Bettie spent her childhood years in Sulphur, OK, attended a private Catholic School in Edmond before attending Wilson High School. She and Wesley Gilbert (Bub) Davis were married August 12, 1948 in Gainesville, TX and were married 50 years before Bub’s death in February 1999.

Bettie was an active member of the Wilson Homemakers Association and the United Methodist Church in which she served in various capacities. She was employed as a community worker for the Carter County Health Department from August, 1971 until her retirement in January, 1996.

Bettie had a strong passion to beautify Wilson in many ways by working with the Wilson Community Park, City Council as well as maintaining the Wilson Public Library landscaping for many years. The Davis home and gardens on Hwy 76 was a beautiful haven for the residents of Wilson as well as anyone traveling down the highway. She received great pleasure in sharing her love of gardening with others through knowledge and sharing the fruits of her labor.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Bub and three half-sisters, Norma Becker, Marie Brauchie and Margie Ferguson.

Survivors include her three sons, Steve of Mead; Bruce of Dallas; Scott and his wife Kasey of Lone Grove. One daughter Susan Gail Clayton of Owasso. Grandchildren, Wesley and Erin Davis of Norman, Harrison Clayton of Tulsa, Natalie and Jared Davis of Lone Grove. Brother-in-laws Ray Davis of Wilson, Doyle Davis and his wife Edie of Wilson.
