Bobbie Jean Montgomery Cox

September 18, 1928 to November 9, 2015

On Monday, November 9, 2015, the gentle soul of our mother, grandmother (Biwi), great grandmother, and many things to many people, transitioned from this earthly life into her eternal life in the same way she lived-with grace, dignity and peace. She was born on September 18, 1928, in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma to James Clarence Montgomery and Evelyn Richmond Montgomery. The family experienced the early days of the “Dust Bowl” and was forced to return to Love County and settled in the Abner community and finally at Eastman where they continued their life as farmers and ranchers. She completed high school at Meadowbrook Public Schools where, as a senior, was courted by a returning World War II veteran, W.G.(Hap) Cox, who declared in class one day that he was going to marry the prettiest girl in school, Bobbie Montgomery, and he did on May 17, 1946. Their life journey together ended in 2001 with his passing but her devotion and love for him never wavered until her own passing because that’s who she was. She was all about the love of God, family, Grace, and forgiveness. She was heard to say many times to never let your children be in doubt about your love.

Her life was one of servitude both from her own sweet nature as well as from her spiritual gifts as she was a true spiritual warrior. She always wanted to know what was going on with each family so that she knew how to pray. There is no greater legacy than to be the living example of how Christ would want us all to live out our short time on earth. Her servant’s heart was revealed in her devotion to family but also in that she chose to become a teacher only after her children were raised. She taught first at Turner Public Schools and finished her career at Wilson Public Schools. She loved all kids throughout those years, even the hard ones to love, and believed that teaching was a part of her calling in life. Her servant’s heart continued to serve others later in life as she helped her husband, father, mother, and sisters in transition to their heavenly home. She did this without wanting, expecting or needing recognition because THAT’S WHO SHE WAS. Probably the greatest appeal to her character was that she never seemed to realize the impact of her own beauty or spiritual strength on others. She inspired us through how she simply and honestly lived her life BECAUSE THAT’S WHO SHE WAS.

Her persona was of love, joy, humor, compassion, encouragement and throw in a little tough love when necessary. She loved traveling with her children, outings to Oswalt, praising her God whether in church or where ever, fixing her famous Biwi biscuits and making quilts for kids and grandkids.

If she could talk to us now she would say, “there are no sorrows here, no more burdens to bear, no sickness no pain, no more crying over here, all is peace forever more, here on the Golden shore what a day, glorious day. I will see all of you soon”, because that’s WHO SHE IS!

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Michael Dean Cox and sisters, Thelma Hitt and Mary Brimager. She is survived by daughter Nancy Lynn Day and husband Aubrey, son Donnell Cox and wife Pam, daughter-in-love Vicki Lester Cox, son Terry Wayne Cox and wife Vicki, brother J.C. Montgomery Jr. and wife Rowena, grandchildren Jeff Hall and wife Kelly, Christi Wharton, Kelli Donahue and husband Michael, Eric Cox and wife Crystal, Chad Cox and wife Jordan, Emily Orr and husband Justin, Shelly Trubenbach and husband Richard, Shane Cox and wife Johna, Amanda Quick and husband Travis, Candice Ryan and husband Paul, 22 great grandchildren, brother-in-laws Bob Cox and wife Pat, Jim Cox and wife Donna and numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends from Elmbrook suites.

Pallbearers will be grand children and great grand children Jeff Hall, Eric Cox, Chad Cox, Shane Cox, River Stewart, Jakob Cox, Halston Cox, Elijah Wharton, Colton Hall.

Honorary pallbearers are all the other grandchildren and great grand children.

The family would like to thank Elmbrook Suites and Cross Timbers Hospice for all the love, care and compassion they gave to us and our mother, God bless you all.

Services will be at Crystalrock Cathedral on Monday, November 16, 2015 at 2:00 officiated by Rev. Walt Spradling and Rev. Johnny Tynes under the direction of Alexander Funeral Homes and Crematory. Interment will be at the Oswalt Cemetery.
