Charles Ross Reece

Ardmore - The funeral service for Mr. Charles Ross “Maney” Reece, 81, of Ardmore is scheduled for 10:00AM Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022, at Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel of Wilson with Pastor Jody Ham officiating. Interment will follow at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Wynnewood.

Charles was born on Nov. 21, 1940, at Wynnewood to the late Mr. Ernest Calvin “Jiggs” Reece and Mrs. Charlene Mae (Primrose) Reece. He departed this life on Monday, Jan. 24, 2022, at his home in Ardmore.

Charles was raised at Wynnewood View. As a young boy he and his brothers loved riding horses on the banks of Wild Horse Creek. After riding and swimming all day, he and his brothers would ride to Aunt Josie’s grocery store for free soda pops. Charles attended elementary school at Roady, junior high at Woodland, high school in Wynnewood where he graduated in 1959. He loved playing football and basketball for the Wynnewood Savages his freshman through senior year, and he excelled in both sports. On June 2, 1960, in Wynnewood he married the former Miss Sally Jane Blackburn. They lived a short while in Irving, Texas, where Charles worked as a firefighter before moving back to Oklahoma to attend college.

In 1964 Charles enrolled in the University of Oklahoma School of Pharmacy and graduated in 1970. While he was in pharmacy school, his mother passed away unexpectedly; so to honor an earlier promise he had made to his mother, he returned to their family home in Wynnewood to help with his three youngest siblings making it necessary for him to commute his last two years.

In 1970 he and his family along with his youngest sister moved to Ardmore where he began his 46 year career as a pharmacist. During his years of employment, Charles was employed at Steele Drug, Revco, the Chickasaw Indian Clinic, and lastly at the Mercy Hospital Clinical Pharmacy. He retired from pharmacy in 2016.

Growing up on a farm in Wynnewood, Charles with this love; he was an avid cow man and horseman. When his children were young, the family enjoyed riding horses, playdays, boating, camping, playing softball and basketball, plus he was an amateur team roper. After his children were grown, he divided his time between work as a pharmacist and working on his farm. He loved working cattle and tending to his farm.

Until his health declined, Charles attended the Calvary Christian Fellowship Church of Ardmore.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Jiggs and Charlene Reece; his brothers, Jack, Freddie Dean, Joe, and Ernest Jr.; grandson-in-law, Joey Mack Bailey, grandson Brett Spells, nephews Kenny Wayne Richardson and Kyle Reece.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Sally of the home; daughters, Denise Brunk and husband Bruce and Terri Spells and husband Mike, both of Ardmore; sisters, Shirlene Russell and husband Danny, Betty Richardson and Carolyn Harmon; brother, Jim Reece; grandchildren, Ashley Willis and husband Jared, Cory Cox and wife Carol Ann, Sarah Bass and husband Kane, Rachel Fithian and husband Damon and Aaron Spells and wife Emma; great grandchildren, Addison, Colton, Ridge, Olivia, Miley, Hudson, Zoey and Owen; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends.

Casket bearers are Cory Cox, Jim Reece, Connie Blackburn, Jared Willis, Kane Bass, Damon Fithian, Colton Bailey and Ridge Willis.

Honorary bearers are Brett Reece, Cody Reece, Cale Reece, Jeff Little, John Fastino, Matthew Blackburn, Bradley Sharpe and Adam Sharpe.
