Cleo L (Dunn) Spurgin

Services for Cleo L. Spurgin, 96, of Velma, are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at the Country Side Freewill Baptist Church in Velma. Interment will follow at the New Velma Cemetery. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Velma.

Cleo was born February 5, 1927, at Comanche to the late Mr. John Leslie Dunn and Mrs. Mary Lela (Bussey) Dunn. She departed this life Wednesday, January 3, 2024, in Roff.

Cleo was raised in the Comanche area where she attended school at Alma, graduating with the class of 1944. She married Mr. LoRay Spurgin on June 29, 1945, at Dixie, OK. The couple traveled around due to LoRay’s employment in the oilfield but made their home in Velma in 1956. Cleo served as the Countryside Freewill Baptist Church song leader for nearly 66 years. Even though most of her years were spent working from home as a homemaker, she worked as a substitute teacher at Velma Alma once the children were grown. Cleo was a seamstress and an avid fan of the VA Comets and OU Sooners. She loved to travel, spending time with her family and friends.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, LoRay Spurgin in 2012; daughter, Myra Berry in 2013; sister, Lavana Turnbow; sister-in-law, Delpha Ward; brothers-in-law, Roy Turnbow, J.C. Ward, and Monte Spurgin.

Survivors include her children, Myrna Sam and husband Steve of Fort Worth, TX, Paula Crawford and husband Steven of Roff, David Spurgin and wife Renee of Velma; son-in-law, Jack Berry of Ada; grandchildren, Chris Woodall, Brooke Kingsley and husband Peter, Blake Crawford and wife Kim, Brent Crawford and wife Jamie, Courtney Bratton and husband Bryan, Lyndsi Sam, and Brandon Spurgin; great grandchildren, Breecia Kinder and husband Reid, Amy Villafranco and husband Cruz, Kassidy Reust, Aleah Crawford, MacKenzie Clark and husband Garrett, Ally Crawford, Kaden Reust, Clay Crawford and wife Ashlie, Hunter Lehr, Loren Woodall, Jalie Lehr, Tyler Bratton, Logan Bratton, Jake Crawford, Journey Jimenez, Halen Jimenez; great great grandchildren, Xavier Villafranco and baby Kinder on the way; niece, Judi Bennett; nephew, Terry Ward and wife Bridget; numerous other family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Chris Woodall, Blake Crawford, Brent Crawford, Bryan Bratton, Reid Kinder, and Cruz Villafanco.

Honorary bearers are Clay Crawford, Jake Crawford, Brandon Spurgin, Kaden Reust, Tyler Bratton, and Logan Bratton.

Family visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 5-7 P.M. at the Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Velma.
