Doil Eugene Hamersley

Velma - Home Going services for Mr. Doil Eugene Hamersley, 86, are scheduled for 11:00 am Tuesday Oct. 1, 2019 at the Velma First Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Johnston officiating. Interment will follow at the New Velma Cemetery. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Velma Chapel.

Doil was born on March 22, 1933 at Eldorado to the late Mr. Jake Hamersley and Mrs. Nancy Vera (Roberts) Hamersley. He departed this life on Friday September 27, 2019 at Marlow.

Doil was raised initially within the Boggy Depot area, moving frequently after the passing of his mother Vera. He married the former Ms. Georgia Allen on Feb. 28, 1953 at Sulphur. They first resided in Ardmore for two years before moving to four different states working for Sinclair which later became ARCO. They transferred to this area in the early 60's and permanently made their home here in 1964. Doil retired from ARCO in 1993 and later went back to work for local oil producers as a contract pumper. He loved to rope and was a good heeler and enjoyed making rope baskets.

Preceding him in death are his parents; stepmother, Myrtle Dee Hamersley; two brothers, Tommy and J.W.; two grandsons, Clifton and Jacob Norton.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mrs. Georgia Hamersley of the home; daughters, Vera Hardin and husband David and Pam Norton and husband Bob all of Velma; brother, Jackie Hamersley of Crosbyton, TX; two grandchildren, Melinda Childress and Courtney Folsom and husband Matt; six great grandchildren, Makayla Folsom, Yabsira Folsom, Joey Folsom, Abby Childress, Emma Childress and Dylan Childress.

Casket Bearers will be Cliff Taylor, Jerry Abshire, Doyne Wofford, Jimmy Thompson, Jade Thompson and Kent Perkins.
Honorary bearers are Chris Fuller, Billy Earl Thacker, Bobby Simpson, Steve Cruz, Paul Arnett and Randy Cain.

Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm Monday evening at Alexander Gray Velma Chapel.
