Dorothy M Lerkins

Wilson - Funeral Services for Mrs. Dorothy M. Lerkins, 82 of Wilson are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Monday, January 18, 2021 at the Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel with Jeff Jones officiating. Interment will follow to Hewitt Cemetery. We respectively ask those that are in attendance to please wear a mask. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Wilson.

Dorothy was born January 25, 1938 in Healdton, OK to the late Mr. Dewey Lee Garrison and Mrs. Bertha Violet (Martin) Garrison. She departed from this earthly life on Wednesday, January 13, 2021.

Dorothy graduated from Rexroat High School in 1956 and Draughns Business College of Wichita Falls in 1958. She married Robert Leroy Lerkins on September 6, 1958 in Wichita Falls, TX and are the parents of 3 sons, Robert Leroy (Bobby), Alan Don and Brian Jon. Dorothy was a stay at home mom while her sons were growing up. Her back yard was the playground for the neighborhood boys who ate many peanut butter sandwiches washed down with kool aid or water. She was very active in her Southern Baptist Church serving in many capacities from children's worker to Ladies Bible teacher, church secretary and Deacon's wife.

When she and Bob went to do mission work on the Navajo Reservation from 1988 to 2004, she also served as a substitute teacher in the public school system. When she and Bob retired in 2004, they returned to Wilson. Her hobbies included reading, sewing and working crossword puzzles. But most of all she liked to study the Bible and teach God's word.

Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Dewey in 1987 and Bertha in 2000.

She is survived by her husband, Bob of the home; 3 sons, Bobby Lerkins of the home, Alan Lerkins and wife Susan of Oklahoma City and Brian Lerkins and wife Debi of Scotts Dale, AZ; sisters, Francis Steele of Wilson, Ruth Johnson of Waxahatchie, Texas and Linda Rabe of Lone Grove; cousin, Betty Manley of Wilson; and by a host other family and friends.

Honorary bearers will be the health care workers of Cross Timbers Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cross Timbers Hospice or the Wilson Fire Department.
