Ringling – Funeral Services for Mrs. Edna Adell McGowan, 94, will be 2PM Saturday February 9, 2008 at the Ringling United Methodist Church with Pastor Paul E. Reed officiating. An Inurnment of her ashes will be at Ringling Memorial Cemetery at a later date. Services are under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home in Ringling

Edna was born on September 10, 1913 at Comanche, OK to the late Jess G. Tipton and Berty R. Scott Tipton. She passed away Wednesday February 6, 2008 at her home in Ringling.

She and her family moved to Ringling in 1930 with her sisters Lena Mae and Bill and 1 Brother “Buddy” in a Model A. Their household goods were moved by Wagon and the cattle were driven by horses. At Ringling a sister Sammy and a brother Jack were born.

She married the late Odus R. Meek August 19, 1930 at Healdton. His occupation took them to many states and countries. She and Odus worked at the shipyards in California during WWII. They had 2 children Jessie C. Meek in 1932 and Sandra Lee Meek in 1941 and two infant children who passed away. Odus preceded her in death on March 19, 1980.

She later married the late Butler McGowan of Ringling on September 10, 1982 at Comanche. She gained 2 stepsons from this Union, Sam and Bill McGowan. Butler preceded her in death on December 27, 2002.

Edna had always been active in her community with pie suppers, cooking for fundraisers and her church activities. She also continued to teach her Sunday School Class at the Ringling United Methodist Church.

In her book “Mothers Memories to Her Child”, she writes, “The one thing I want you to always remember is that God Loves you and I Love You”.

May the many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews remember her words of wisdom and carry them in their hearts .

In addition to those preceding her in death, is her parents, and a sister Bill James.

Survivors include a daughter Sandra James and Husband Herman of Roswell, NM. 3 Sons – J.C. Meek of Ft. Lupton, CO, Bill McGowan and wife Anna Kay of Newcastle, and Sam McGowan of Idabel. Brother – Jack Tipton of Ringling, and Buddy Tipton and his wife Mary Bell of Tulsa. 2 Sisters – Lena Mae Tooman of Tulsa, and Sammy Edmondson of Ratan, OK. 10 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren, and 5 great great. Numerous other family and friends.


Pallbearers are Larry Farmer, Rob Stashi, Jim Meek, Chris McGowan, Jerry Tarbet, Bryce Melendez.


Honorary Bearers are Don Howard, Doc Tripp, Mike Brooks, Harry Goodman, Harold Jackson and Jack Grace.



Family visitation will be Friday evening from 6-7pm at the funeral home in Ringling.


In Lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Ringling United Methodist Church Youth Group in continuation of Edna’s and Butler’s monthly commitment at P.O. Box 53 Ringling, OK 73456.
