Hurshel Alwin Baker

January 22, 1920 — August 21, 2014

Ratliff City-Funeral Services for Hurshel A. Baker, 94, Minister of Graham Assembly of God Church are scheduled for 2:00 PM Monday, August 25, 2014 at the Graham Assembly of God Church in Graham with Rev. JR Townley officiating and Rev. David Baker assisting. Interment will follow at the Dixie Cemetery in Stephens County.


Hurshel Alwin Baker was born January 22, 1920 at Loco, Oklahoma to Mr. David Jeff Baker and Mrs. Ida Leona (Friels) Baker. He departed this life August 21, 2014 at Healdton, Oklahoma.


Hurshel was raised in the Loco area and attended school at Loco. He later attended two years at the Higher Education Center in Ardmore . Hurshel married the former Naomi Faye Spencer on July18, 1945 .She preceded him in death on September 9, 2007. Hurshel was in the U.S. Navy and active in World War II serving in the Armed Guard and was very proud of his time in the Navy. He was one of the last Justice of the Peace Judges in Oklahoma. Hurshel founded the Graham Assembly of God Church in 1955 where he remained for 55 years. His desire was to lead people to Jesus, lift up the fallen and heal the hurting. Because of his loving nature, many people were drawn to him. Hurshel loved to laugh, hear a good joke and tell one. His life was one of joy in Jesus.


In addition to his Wife, Naomi, Hurshel is also preceded in death by his Parents, Jeff and Ida Baker; Sisters, Retha Hines and Dimple Varnell; Brother, Harold Baker.


He is survived by his Daughters, Nelba Baker of Bonham, TX and Carolyn Kale of Thousand Palms, CA; Son, Rev. David Baker and wife, Brenda of Tulsa, OK; Sister, Rozella Pevehouse of Ratliff City; Brother, Hamp Baker of Ringling, OK; 3 Grandchildren; 4 Great Grandsons; Numerous other Family and Friends.


Pallbearers are Mike Alexander, Kevin Morse, David Carter, Jack Brown, Bob May and Curtis Pevehouse.


Honorary Bearers are Jeff Webb, Allen Bossa, Michael Goldsmith, Curtis Dougherty, Kelly Tucker and

Craig Baker.



Memorials may be made to the Graham Assembly of God or Jesus House 1135 West Sheridan Oklahoma City, OK 73106.


Visitation will be from 4-6 PM Sunday, August 24, 2014 at the Alexander Funeral Home of Ratliff City.
