Joe Earl Bartlett

Wilson - Home Going services for Joe Earl Bartlett, 95, of Wilson are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, May 14, 2022 at the Wilson Assembly of God Church in Wilson with Bro. John Harris officiating and Bro. Jim McGaughy assisting. Interment with military honors will follow at the Bomar Point Cemetery. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Wilson.
Joe was born Sept. 16, 1926 at Celeste, TX to the late Mr. Thomas Earl Bartlett and Mrs. Ruby Pearl (Gilmore) Bartlett. He went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 surrounded by his family at his home in Wilson.
Joe was raised at Leonard, TX attending school there until joining the United States Navy during WWII. Joe served as an Electricians Mate, 3rd Class on the USS LSM 6, seeing action in the South Pacific, mostly in the Philippine Islands. Upon his honorable discharge, Joe received several decorations and commendations including a bronze star. Most recently he was awarded the Purple Heart for his injuries sustained during his enlistment.
Joe and the former Ms. Betty Hurley were united in marriage on May 24, 1946 at Gainesville, TX. They served within the Christian ministry for 74 years, mostly within the Assembly of God Churches. Joe was one to serve, where no one else wanted to go. He was instrumental in constructing church facilities in Texas, Oklahoma and Maine. He was employed as an electrician for most of his years in the ministries, lastly retiring from Uniroyal in 1989. Joe had an outgoing personality and never met a stranger. Joe mostly loved worshiping God at the Assembly of God Church. He also enjoyed many trout fishing trips and camping in Colorado. He enjoyed attending Ringling Blue Devil sporting events and his grandchildren's activities throughout the years.
Preceding him in death are his parents; sons, Dale Lee Bartlett and Joe Lynn Bartlett; daughters, Annita "Pebbles" Bartlett-Jackson and Jeannette Stewart and son in law, Robert Stewart; grandchildren, Cherie Bala, Brent Stewart, Cody Snodgrass and Jody Coley; brothers, RC Bartlett and Bob Bartlett.
Survivors include his wife of 75 years, Mrs. Betty of the home; daughter, Donna Snodgrass and husband Jimmy of Ringling; daughter in law, Linda Bartlett of Mooreville, MS; son in law, Greg Jackson of Healdton; brother, Jerry Bartlett and wife Jean of Arlington, TX; sister in law, Helene Maupin of Garland, TX; grandchildren, Billy Bartlett and wife Kerry, Jimmy Darrel Snodgrass, Amanda Stewart, Ashley Klutts and husband Chad, Larissa Naim and husband Danial and Erika Martin and husband Brandon; great grandchildren, Devon, Dylan and Diesel Bartlett, Dakota and Creede Snodgrass, Reagan and Addison Jo Klutts, Brent and Weston Naim and Brenna Smith; special niece, Kathy Bracken; special friends, Larry Van Schuyver and Tammy Townley; numerous other relatives, church family and friends.
Casket bearers are Jimmy Snodgrass, Jimmy Darrel Snodgrass, Dakota Snodgrass, Creede Snodgrass, Chad Klutts and Danial Naim.
Honorary Bearers are Billy Bartlett, Devon Bartlett, Dylan Bartlett, Diesel Bartlett, Brent Naim, Weston Naim and Brandon Martin.
Family visitation will be held Friday afternoon from 4 to 6 pm at Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Wilson.
