Juanita Myrtle (Moore) Carter

May 1, 1937 — May 26, 2024

We are comforted knowing she is fully cognizant, and free of Alzheimer’s. Juanita Carter, 87 years of Ardmore, passed away May 26, 2024, at Southbrook Nursing Center, in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Memorial service will be held 3:00 P.M., Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Rosehill Cemetery in Ardmore, Oklahoma.

Juanita was born May 1, 1937, in Fillmore, Oklahoma to Sidney Luther and Bessie Delaney (Chaney) Moore. She was third of eleven children. She attended Fillmore Schools where she loved playing basketball and loved to tell you she was good at it. Juanita married Don Carter in 1959. They lovingly raised three daughters and cared for her mother-in-law, Ruby for 21 years. As a beautiful example of family, she always welcomed Don’s seven siblings and their families into their home. She and Don owned Carter’s Drapery for 20+ years. She retired from American National Bank after 34 years of service. After retiring she enjoyed grandkids, family and working in her garden. Alzheimer’s took her on a journey, but she kept her beautiful smile and twinkle in her eyes when family was around.

She is survived by Shirley Word & Nick Noble of Ardmore, Doneta Carter of Ardmore, and Shelly Hicks and husband Todd of Overbrook. Her greatest loves, three grandchildren Kenny Word and wife Caitlin, Amy Hicks and fiancé James Busch, Allison Hicks and great grandson, Lucas Wolf Word. Seven siblings - Ethel Gray, Betty Bynum, Patsy Chapman and husband Jimmy, Donnie Moore and wife Linda, Ronnie Moore and wife Eva, Alma “Pee Wee” Purvis and husband Tommy and Bobby Don Moore, many nieces and nephews, and her extended family at Southbrook Nursing Center.

Juanita was preceded in death by husband, parents, siblings Wanda Coats, Maxine Roberts, Francis Luther “Bubby” Moore, niece Alice Tims, in-laws Jessie “Jack” and Ruby Burney (Turner) Carter, brothers in law James Henry, Billy Dean, Jack Jr., Turner, sisters in law, Jean Cole, Beryle Moore, Muriel “Pill” Irons.

Our family greatly appreciates the great care givers at Southbrook Nursing Center in Ardmore, Good Shephard Hospice in Ardmore, Legacy Village Memory Care in Stillwater and The Lodge Assisted Living Center in Ardmore.

Donations may be made to the Milburn High School C/O Athletic Director David Thornburg, PO BOX 429, Milburn, OK 73450 for the Girls Basketball Team.
