Larry Don Stewart

July 6, 1941 — April 13, 2023

Ringling - Mr. Larry Don Stewart, of Lone Grove, departed this life on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Ardmore at the age of 81 years, 9 months, and 7 days. A cowboy celebration is scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Monday, April 17, 2023, at the Ringling Memorial Cemetery with Dickey Welch, Randy Raines, Amy Landon and other friends and family officiating. Larry requested that everyone bring their ice chest and sit around and tell stories of his life, both good and crazy. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Ringling.


Larry was born on July 6, 1941 in Wichita Falls, TX to the late Mr. Jack Byren Stewart and Mrs. Peggy Lou (Turner) Jennings. 


Mr. Stewart was raised in Ringling and the Claypool community. He attended Ringling Public Schools and graduated with the Ringling High School Class of 1959. Larry then attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University. He was an Animal Health Technician with the USDA for over 45 years where he made many friends and enjoyed his career. He retired from the USDA in 2016. Larry also worked for First National Bank as a Cattle Inspector for several years. He was President of the Carter County Cattlemen’s Association from 2017 – 2022 and Vice President for many years. Larry was a charter member of the National Cowboy Hall of Fame. He loved to watch his children and grandchildren show cattle and play sports. He was very proud of each and every one of them. Larry impacted a lot of youth on the ballfields and in the show rings. His last hours were spent buying bulls with his son’s and grandson. Larry attended the Ringling United Methodist Church and was a follower of Jesus Christ.


Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Jack Stewart and Peggy Turner Jennings; stepfather, Bob Jennings; sister, Patricia Kay Jones, uncle, Mike Turner; grandparents, Claude and Ethel Turner, Earl and Dollie Stewart; great grandparents, Pikney and Ephie Turner.


He is survived by his sons, Mike Stewart and wife Lisa of Healdton, Jim T. Stewart of Lone Grove; daughters, Kristi Moyers of Ardmore and Angela Richards and husband Jason of Muleshoe, TX; another son who he also considered his own, Randy Raines of Lone Grove; older brother, Bob Earl Stewart and wife Renell of Ringling; close friend, Robbie McGee of Lone Grove; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren; numerous other family and friends.


Serving as casket bearers will be T.J. Nichols, Lane Stewart, Kaleb Stewart, Tanner Stewart, Devin Moyers, Mickey Scott, and Gehrig Scott.


Honorary casket bearers are Members of the Carter County Cattleman’s Association.


Visitation will be held from 6 – 8:00 P.M. Sunday, April 16, 2023 at Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Ringling. Everyone is requested to bring their electric irons to place their brand on the casket and keepsakes for the family. Last but not least, Larry wanted us to share this quote with you when this time arose, he said


 "No Sad, as I have given life all I can".
