Lavina "Evelyn" Adams

February 4, 1927 — September 22, 2022

Healdton - Private Graveside services are set for Mrs. Lavina "Evelyn" (Hunter) Adams at Mount Olive Cemetery with Zane Gray officiating.  Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Wilson. 


Evelyn was born February 4, 1927 in Gilliam, Arkansas to the late Anthony H. Hunter & Mrs. Grace Lavona (Roden) Hunter. She departed from this life on September 22, 2022 at the age of 95 years, 7 months and 18 days.


Evelyn was raised in Gilliam, Arkansas and in her teens the family moved to Freer, TX. Evelyn made several friendships there and those lasted a lifetime. After high school Evelyn started Business school in San Antonio, TX but quit to go to work for the U.S. Government during WWII. While working for the Government she also spent some time in California and Washington D.C. but her favorite was San Antonio at Fort Sam Houston. She loved her time there and reminisced about those days often.

On June 29, 1951 Evelyn married John Morris Adams in Freer, TX. The couple had three children, Donnie, Debra and David. For the next 65 years they made their home in Healdton, OK. Evelyn enjoyed sewing, painting, gardening, working in her flowerbeds, reading and Bunco club. She enjoyed the years she and John spent traveling with their RV club. She always looked forward to the time she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of the Healdton First Baptist Church for 55 years. Evelyn had a beautiful heart and soul and live her life for the Lord.


Preceding her in death are her parents; sister Margie Mae; brothers, Junior and Johnny; husband John; grandson John Seth and daughter in law Sherrie.


Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Debra Poteet and husband Champ of Hastings; sons, Donnie Adams of Oil City and David Adams and wife Iris of Irvington, AL; brother Jerry Hunter and wife Joyce of Maysville, OK; sister in law, Maurine Cashion of Nederland, TX; brother in law, Travis Adams and wife Betty Jean of College Station, TX; grandchildren, Elizabeth Bass and husband Nick, Jennifer Williams and husband Brodie, Carla Poteet, Stephanie Adams, Amy Adams and spouse Michelle Smith, Daryn Brady and husband Jared; 13 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.
