Leona Marie Applegate

Healdton - Funeral Servies for Leona "Marie" Applegate, 76 of Healdton, are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Friday, January 6, 2022 at the New Hope Freewill Baptist Church in Lone Grove with David Gardner and Dustin Gardner officiating.  Interment will follow to Mount Olive Cemetery.  Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Healdton. 

Marie was born November 14, 1946 in Pomona Valley, CA to the late Mr. Gaius Abraham Melton and Mrs. Lorene (Dickerson) Melton.  She departed from this life on Sunday, January 1, 2023 at her home in Healdton.  

Marie was raised in California moving to the Fox area where she graduated from Fox High School.  She married Mr. William Lee Applegate on May 25, 1968 in Dallas, TX.  Together they moved to Oklahoma in 1969 making their home in Healdton.  Marie has worked within the nursing field most of her life retiring from Mercy Hospital as the unit secretary.  She enjoyed music mostly gospel, traveling to bluegrass festivals, revivals, and singing.  Marie was a member of the New Hope Freewill Baptist Church. 

Preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, Jimmy Melton; and a nephew, Kenny Melton. 

Marie is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, William Applegate of the home; son William "Willie" Applegate and wife Connie of Healdton; granddaughters, Melody Applegate and fiancée Dakota Pierce and Katie Wade and husband Phillip; grandsons, Lance Applegate and fiancée Allison Enox and Logan Applegate; 2 great grandchildren, Bax and Zander; brother, John Melton and wife Linda; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends. 

Pallbearers will be Dustin Gardner, Terry Fuqua, Lance Applegate, Logan Applegate, Dakota Pierce, and Phillip Wade.   Honorary bearer will be John Melton. 

Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 5-7 P.M. at Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Healdton.
