Mary Lou was born on Jan. 1, 1925, at Ardmore to the late Mr. Montie Cates and Mrs. Jannie (Grubbs) Cates. She departed this life on Tuesday Dec. 7, 2021, at Healdton.

Mary Lou was raised at Dundee, moving to Healdton her senior year. She graduated from Healdton High School in 1943 and was often recognized at the Alumni Banquets as being the "oldest surviving Healdton High School graduate". Everyone in the Healdton knew Mary Lou. She was always very active within the community working as a cook at the school cafeteria for several years and at Eck Drug Store and Bean Family Pharmacy. There all the kids called her Mammy and she loved to visit with everyone as they came in. She was a band mom for many years, always spending Friday nights in the concession stand, helping raise money for new band uniforms.

Mary Lou had a love for horses and was a member of the saddle club. She enjoyed watching her girls ride horses and cooked many burgers at the Bromley arena. She pulled horse trailers many of miles to neighboring towns for her girls to ride in playdays and rodeo parades.

Mary Lou was a member of the New Life Assembly of Healdton and loved the Lord with her whole heart.
