Nanci Jane (Markey) Howard

Memorial services for Nanci Jane (Markey) Howard, 80, are scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Wilson, with Rev. Glynn Baker officiating. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Gray Crematory.

Nanci was born May 31, 1943, at Oakland, California, to the late Bessie (Williams) Markey. She departed this life January 23, 2024, at Durant, OK.

Nanci was raised in Hartshorne, OK attending school at Wilburton, graduating with the High School Class of 1961. She married Truman Howard in June the same year making their home in Salisaw, OK, and was employed at the local nursing home as a CNA, also caring for so many people across Carter County in private care. They were blessed with four children, Cricket, Truman, Tracy, and Terry. Nanci’s husband Truman passed away in 1982 and she was later married to Jack Cathey and the couple made their home in Caddo. To this union they were blessed with two children, Nicole and Joe Wesley. Nanci made her home in Wilson, in 1988, and always considered it home. She was an avid reader who loved to fish, gamble, and play games on her phone. Nanci loved to sit at her dining room table and watch people drive by and loved Fox News. The last two years of her life were spent in Caddo to be close to her children.

Preceding her in death are her grandparents who helped raise her, John and Lillie Williams; mother, Bessie Markey; husband, Truman Howard; husband, Jack Dan Cathey; son, Terry who passed away in 1974; longtime companion, Shug Barnes; longtime companion, Charles ChaCha Thompson.

Survivors include her children, Cricket Sam and husband David of Hartshorne, OK, Truman Howard and wife Patty of Foley, AL, Tracy Nava and husband Carlos of Burneyville, OK, Nicole Vaughn and husband Chris of Caddo, OK, and Joe Wesley Cathey and wife Brandy of Caddo, OK; grandchildren, Teresa Medina and husband Luis, Tacey Stone and husband Jim, Travis Howard, Chris Gillum and wife Rejena, Ashley Morton and husband Jerry, Tyler Cathey “Ty Man”, Bryce Willis and wife Summer, Alexander Nava, Hannah Vaughn, Jordan Vaughn, Kaidence Cathey, Macey Joe Cathey, Aubrey Cathey, Sabree Cathey; numerous great grandchildren which included one that was born on her birthday; cousins, Pat Courter, Carol Martinez, and Margaret Fender; special friend and neighbor for 30 years, Linda Sanders; numerous other family and many friends.

Family visitation will be held Friday evening from 6-8 P.M. at the Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Wilson.
