Porter Murrell Mcdaniel

Fox - Funeral services for Porter Murrell McDaniel, 82, of Fox are scheduled for 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 27th at the Fox School auditorium with Carl Taylor of Fox First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at the New Velma Cemetery. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Ratliff City.

Porter was born March 24, 1939 to the late Murrell and Leota McDaniel in Fewell, OK. He departed this life Monday, May 24, 2021. Porter graduated from Nashoba High School in 1957 and continued his education at Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton before transferring to Southeastern Oklahoma State University. He completed his education at Oklahoma State University with a master’s degree in education. He met and married Sue Iiams at Southeastern Oklahoma State University on July 23, 1960.

Porter first taught at Wilson Public School teaching driver education and elementary in 1960 before moving to Fox in 1962. While at Fox he taught elementary one year and spent many years as the vocational welding teacher. After retiring from education he went to work full time for Associated Wireline in Healdton before retiring for good to spend summers with family and friends in Lake City, CO. Porter loved spending time hunting, fishing and gardening along with visiting with his friends and family.

He is preceded in death by infant son Leo Carl McDaniel, his parents, in-laws Leo and Leona Liams, nephews Roy and Jacky McKaughan and niece Greda McDaniel McIntyre.

He is survived by his wife, Sue, of the home; daughters Karla and husband Randy Shackleford of Noble, OK, Laura and husband John Johnston of Fox, OK; granddaughters Tyra Shackleford of Latta, OK, Tamra Shackleford of Noble, OK, Jaden Johnston of Fox, OK; grandsons Taylor and wife Sarah Britt of San Antonio, TX, Tanner and wife Lauren Britt of Denton, TX; great grandchildren Xylan and Zora Wallace of Latta, OK; Charleston and Denton Brown of Noble, OK; Lillian and Owen Britt of Denton, TX; sisters Tommy and husband Jerry Fugitt of McAlester, OK, Sammy Warren of Wiburton, OK; brother Rodger and wife Latresia McDaniel of Nashoba, OK; brother- in-law Larry and wife Linda Iiams of Lake City, CO; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Tanner Britt, Taylor Britt, Xylan Wallace, Dan Iiams, Shannon McDaniel, Justin McDaniel, and Doyle McDaniel.

Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 6-8 P.M., at Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Ratliff City.
