Rev. Jimmy Dexter Gillum

Wilson - Funeral Services for Rev. Jimmy D. Gillum, 65, are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 31, 2014 at the Assembly of God Church of Wilson with Rev. Charles Reed and Rev. Dwain Duck officiating with Rev. Chris Brown assisting. Interment will follow at the Ryan Cemetery. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.

Jimmy Dexter Gillum was born August 24, 1948 at Terral, Oklahoma to Mr. Verna Sylvester Gillum and Mrs. Syrildia (Plew) Gillum. He passed from this life Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Ardmore, Oklahoma.

Jimmy was raised at Terral, Oklahoma and graduated High School there in 1968. He married the former Ms. Sheneista Whitsett April 20, 1968 at Ryan, Oklahoma and they recently celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary. Jimmy worked at Halliburton briefly, sold insurance and then managed grocery stores before going into the full time ministry. His first church was in Maysville, OK. where he stayed for three years before moving to Antlers, Carney, Bowlegs and lastly to Wilson in 1986. Jimmy served the Lord and the community for 20 years at the Wilson Assembly of God Church. He collected die cast cars and restored cars. Jim loved to sing ,working outdoors and enjoyed Andy Griffith and playing Santa Claus.

He is preceded in death by his Parents, Verna and Syrildia Gillum; Brothers, Marvin, Ardell and Leo; Sisters, Maudie Ann and Pauline; Grandson, Dustin.

Survivors include his Wife, Sheneista Gillum of the home; Son, Dewayne Gillum and wife, Robbi of Konawa, OK.; Daughters, Darla Newport and husband, Mitchell of Sulphur, OK. and Alissa Gillum of the home; Brother, Hughie Lee Gillum of Waco, TX.; Sister, Alta Marie Rowe of Choctaw, OK. ; 5 Grandchildren, Dustin, Dillon, Chelsea, Zachery and Mikayla; Numerous other Family and Friends.

Pallbearers are Kelvin Whitsett, Floyd Whitsett, Lloyd Whitsett, Mitchell Newport, Paul Lewis and Don Heilman.

Family visitation will be held at Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson from 6-8pm Friday evening.
