Rita Valerie Horton

Wilson – Funeral Services for Mrs. Rita Valerie (Burris) Horton, 80 yrs, of Ardmore are scheduled for 10:00 am Monday, March 19, 2012 at Alexander Funeral Home Chapel of Wilson with Pastor Rhonda Howard officiating. Interment will follow at Bomar Point Cemetery in Wilson.

Rita was born July 23, 1931 at Wilson to the late Mr. Claud O. Burris, Sr. and Mrs. Mary Agnes (Hoffman) Burris. She departed this life Wed. March 14, 2012 at a nursing home facility in Ardmore.

Rita was raised in Wilson attending school here. She attended college at Murray State in Tishomingo where she received her Nursing degree. She was employed at several Nursing Homes in this area, retiring fifteen years ago. All of her adult life she has been a resident of Ardmore and most recently attended the Lords Church of Ardmore.

Rita was a very talented Artist. She loved playing the guitar and enjoyed dancing. She also enjoyed fishing, but most of all loved being with her children and family.

Preceding her in death are her Parents; Daughter, Jackie Elaine; Sons, Roy Lynn and Wayne; numerous siblings.

Survivors include her 3 Daughters, Darlene Asbery, Shayteen Hay, and Marie Sweetland; Son, Glenn Emberling; Granddaughter and Caretaker, Summer Smith of the home; Other Grandchildren, Ricky, Billy, Dewayne, Kelly, Michael, James, Gary, Amanda, Jess, Lesley and Casey; Numerous Great Grandchildren and other family and friends.

Pallbearers are Ricky Asbery, Lesley Asbery, James Asbery, Gary Mason, Casey Sweetland, Jess Dodson, and Daniel Mason.

Family visitation will be from 5-7 pm Sunday evening at the funeral home in Wilson.
