Steve Adrian Garrett

November 12, 1953 — April 16, 2024

Steve Adrian “Blue” Garrett, the man who could outwork any ol’ boy out there, passed away at his home on April 16, 2024, at the age of 70. Born in Fresno, CA, in 1953, Steve’s journey was filled with laughter, sorrow, hard work, and more than a little mischief.

After serving two campaigns in Vietnam with the US Navy, Steve set his sights on the horizon while staring out a huge windshield and starting a career in trucking. In a truckstop diner, he met the love of his life, a beautiful hippy named Betty who went by “Sunnie”. In short order, she became his wife. Steve didn’t just drive trucks; he practically made them beg for mercy. Over the years, he and Betty started two trucking companies, a testament to his relentless spirit of adventure and risk. Later, he survived over a decade as a maintenance technician at Michelin where he enjoyed the challenge and gritty work.

Steve was passionate about Harleys (especially his custom ‘58 Panhead), dirt bikes, fishing, camping, and hiking. During retirement he and his Baby, Betty, fulfilled many lifelong dreams. They lived on a lake in Sulphur. They traveled the country in a custom-fit utility trailer to camp off grid in some of this great country’s most beautiful areas, while visiting family from across the US as they went. Most recently, they lived his longest dream of living on his own little slice of heaven, their farm in Madill. He over-fed every animal they had (because when Steve loves, he loves BIG), and ensured that every chore that possibly could be done, was done right by his own rough hands.

Known for breaking into his favorite tune, “The Battle of New Orleans,” at the drop of a hat, Steve's boisterous renditions are etched in the memory of his family, who had no choice but to learn every word. His daughters believe that this contributed to their ability to pass 8th grade history class and are thankful to this day. His belief in hard work and doing things the right way never overshadowed his ability to crack a joke, pull a prank, or give the best damned hugs of encouragement.

Steve leaves behind his wife of 44 years, Betty Banks Garrett and their 3 daughters, Christy Garrett, Tabitha Marjerrison, Michelle Smock (Neal). He is also survived by son, Josh Curell, and daughter Stephanie Eager, and bonus daughter, Jennifer Curell, and 17 unique and beautiful grandchildren that he cherished. His sister Jeannie Mordecai, and brother Lonnie Amerson remain, and he was met in Heaven by his sister, Mary Russell.

The family wishes to thank Alexander Gray Funeral Home, The United States Military, the American Legion, and the Patriot Guard for providing full military honors and an unforgettable tribute to our sailor. A private graveside service will be held to honor Steve's life. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor his memory do so by sipping a little Maker’s Mark and saying a prayer for our Country, our President (that he can keep his ol’ head straight), and our men and women in uniform, which is what Steve prayed.
