Virginia Nell Whitener

March 3, 1942 — November 21, 2019

Ringling – Funeral services for Mrs. Virginia Nell (Thompson) Whitener, 77, of Ringling are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at the Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Raymond Norton officiating. Interment will follow at Crow Cemetery in Orr, Oklahoma.

Virginia was born March 3, 1942 at Pruitt City, Oklahoma to the late Mr. Andrew Jackson Thompson and Mrs. Alta E. (Wells) Thompson. She passed from this life November 21, 2019 at 1:45 A.M. in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Virginia quit school in the eleventh grade to marry the late Mr. Corbin Whitener January 8, 1960 in Liberal, Kansas. She later attended night school in Ringling where she earned her G.E D, of which she was extremely proud. Together, they raised four children and were blessed with 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Virginia treasured being a mother and grandmother above all. She was a generous and compassionate woman, who enjoyed gardening, fishing, reading and playing dominos. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and had a soft spot for small animals. She treated others with kindness and understanding, and was an example to those who knew her.

Preceding her is husband, Corbin; son, Cary; daughter, Kimberly Jean; parents, A.J. and Alta Thompson; brothers, Elzie, Ray, Charles, Billy and Bobby Thompson; and sisters, Oma Pierce, Alene Thompson and Patsy Wilson.

Survivors include her three children, Corbin Whitener of Ringling, Carol Wright and Sam Wright of Edmond and Pam Whitener of Ringling; brother, Wayne Thompson and wife Darlene of Crescent,; three sisters, JoAnn Max of TN, Shirley Redmon of Orr and Irene Lansford and husband Lester of Lawton; six grandchildren, Cody Wright of Ada, Sammy Wright of Edmond, Kammi Wright and fiancé Alex Raines of Edmond, Brianna Struthers of Washington State, Jalen Whitener of Ringling, and Andrew Whitener of TN; great grandchildren, Izabel (IzzyB), Iris, Alyssa, and Abby; daughter in law, Donna Whitener Hunter and husband Scott of TN, ex-daughter in law, Katrina Wright, many nieces and nephews along with a host of other family and friends.

Casket bearers are Cody Wright, Jalen Whitener, Sam Wright, Alex Raines, Jeff Brown, and Scott Hunter.
Honorary bearers will be Sammy Wright, Andrew Whitener, and Brian Rice.

Family visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M. Monday, November 25, 2019 at Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Ringling.
