Vyda Naomi Porter

Ringling – Funeral Services for Mrs. Vyda Naomi (Ward) Porter, 93, of Ringling are scheduled for 10:00 AM Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Ringling with Rev. Mike Williams and Rev. John Spradlin officiating. Interment will follow at the Ringling Memorial Cemetery of Ringling. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Funeral Home of Ringling.

Vyda was born January 17, 1921 at Mineral Wells, Texas to the late Mr. Willis Vernon Ward and Mrs. Francis Leona (Martin) Ward. She departed this life Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Marietta.

Vyda was raised at Claypool and then Ringling. She married Mr. Troy Porter on March 15, 1945. They made their home in Orr and later at the town of Ringling. She was a devoted homemaker, mother and grandmother. Troy preceded her in death on August 28, 1987. Vyda was a member of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Ringling.

Also preceding her in death are her parents; granddaughter, Shawn Miller on Aug. 2, 1987; Sisters, Octavia Wright, Dorothy Cullins and Wanda Turner; brothers, Forrest Ward, Kenneth Ward and Maxie Ward and a son in law, Eddie Miller in 1998.

Survivors include daughter, Kathryn Miller and Jack Heffington of Marietta; Son Terry Porter of St. Petersburg, FL; sisters, Betty Baker of Ringling and Topsy Bigelow of California; grandson, Darrin Miller and wife Marcia of Marietta; 2 great grandchildren, Axel Pierce and Betsey Kate Miller and numerous other relatives and friends.

Casket Bearers are Ronnie Southerland, Willis Southerland, Jimmy Southerland, James Baker, Tony Lyle and Dale Gore.

Honorary bearers will be J.C. Awtrey, Robert Southerland, Henry McDaniel and Jerry Wayne Eubanks.

A special thank you to the Lake Country Nursing Home and Staff and to Dr. Stephen Hutchins and Dr. Tom O’Connor for all their kind felt care and support.

Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm Friday evening at Alexander Funeral Home of Ringling.
