Mr. Billy "Bill" Frank Monroe, born on January 2, 1941, in Mannsville, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at his home on August 10, 2025, after a brief battle with cancer, surrounded by his beloved family.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at the Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Jimmy May. Interment will follow at Ringling Memorial Cemetery.
Bill devoted over 30 years of his life to education as a teacher and administrator, serving at Moore Junior High, Wilson Middle and High School, and Graham Schools, before retiring from Southside Public Schools. His extensive career included roles as a teacher, woodshop instructor, bus driver, principal, and superintendent. In 1993, he transitioned to work for the Chickasaw Nation, where he served as the housing manager for 24 years.
A passionate outdoor enthusiast, Bill found joy in fishing and yard work. He was an avid supporter of OU football and softball, embracing the highs and lows of the games. Above all, Bill was a devoted family man, cherishing his grandchildren and attending their various sporting events, while also delighting in the company of his great-grandchildren.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Hattie Mae Monroe; his brother, Calvin; and his two sons, James and Derek. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty; daughter Michelle Monroe; six grandchildren: Antron Monroe, Paden Coldiron, Seth Shirley, Abigail Coldiron, Jamison Monroe, and Jraven Harvell; two great-grandchildren, Olivia Monroe and Zarian Monroe; two sisters-in-law, Linda Hunziker and Lawana Monroe; and a host of other family and friends.
Pallbearers will include Johnnie Hunziker, Dennis Tolbert, Van Monroe, Jraven Harvell, Phillip Willard, and Brian Hunziker.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. at Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Wilson.
