Bobby was born September 21, 1953, at Ardmore, OK, to Mr. Jonathon “J.W.” Winston McCartney and Mrs. Peggy Ann (Gaither) McCartney. He departed this life Wednesday, January 21, 2026, in Oklahoma City.
Bobby was raised in Fox, where he completed his education, graduating with the class of 1971. His commitment to learning led him to East Central University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Biology and minoring in Chemistry. Bobby's journey in life took a significant turn when he married the former Ms. Kathy Sikes on January 4, 1975, in a ceremony held at the Velma Baptist Church. Their union marked the beginning of a life filled with love, dedication, and shared passions. Bobby embarked on a fulfilling career in education, beginning as a teacher and coach at Wewoka for several years before transitioning to the oilfield in Greenfield, where he worked for 11 years. However, his true calling was realized when he returned to Fox, taking on the role of High School Science Teacher and serving as the girls' basketball and track coach. Over his 22 years at Fox Schools, Bobby became known for his exceptional coaching skills, leading his teams to three state championships in Girls Track, along with several regional championships and state runner-up positions. His impact on the lives of his students and athletes was profound, instilling values of hard work, sportsmanship, and perseverance. Beyond the classroom and the field, Bobby cherished the great outdoors. His love for hunting and fishing was matched only by his fondness for camping. Over the years, he had several quail hunting dogs, each affectionately named “Mac." A dedicated member of the Fox Baptist Church, Bobby served as a deacon and took pride in maintaining the Falls Creek cabin until his health began to decline. Bobby was a family man, devoted to his loved ones in every sense of the word. His deep affection for his brothers was evident, and those bonds were cherished throughout his life. Bobby took immense pride in his role as a father, finding joy in his daughters, who undoubtedly held a special place in his heart as his "daddy’s girls." He was a man of infinite kindness and thoughtfulness. His faith and sense of community were integral to his life, leaving a lasting impression on those who knew him.
