Services for Carl Clyde Shorter, 63, of Lone Grove, are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at the Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Wilson with Bro. Darryl Howard officiating. Interment will follow at Lone Grove West Memorial cemetery.
Carl was born September 22, 1962, at Ardmore, OK. to the late Mr. William Lee Shorter and Mrs. Margie Lestine (Patton) Shorter and he departed this life on Friday, May 29, 2026.
Raised in Lone Grove, Carl was a lifelong resident who cherished his roots deeply. He completed his schooling in Lone Grove, graduating with the class of 1981, and shortly thereafter, he began his career in the oilfield. On July 24, 1982, Carl united in marriage with the love of his life, the former Miss Lucial Dodd, in a ceremony held at the Lake Murray Chapel in Ardmore. This marked the beginning of a lifelong partnership built on love, respect, and devotion. The couple first established their home in Wilson before eventually returning to Lone Grove, where they nurtured a family and made lasting memories. Together, Carl and Lucy were blessed with three sons: Brandon, Michael, and Bradley, who brought immense joy and pride to their parents' lives. Carl's dedication to his family was unmistakable; they were the cornerstone of his existence. As a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he relished every opportunity to share in the joys of his family’s milestones. To his grandchildren, he was affectionately known as Papaw, a presence that brightened their sporting events and every family gathering. Carl’s professional life was marked by a steadfast work ethic. He briefly worked with Cole Services and Dollar General Warehouse but spent the majority of his career in the oilfield industry. Notably, he was employed by Noble, Nabors, and Nomac Drilling for a total of approximately 28 years, embodying dedication and hard work in every role he undertook. Beyond his work and family, Carl was known for his outgoing personality and warm spirit. A man who never met a stranger, he delighted in engaging others with his friendly nature. His passions included cruising adventures and testing his luck at the casino, activities he enjoyed immensely. However, nothing brought him greater happiness than simply spending time with those he loved.
Preceding him in death are his parents, William and Margie Shorter; mother-in-law, Mary Dodd; brothers-in-law, Charlie Roberts and Joe Barnes.
