Gene Autry - Funeral Services for Mr. Charles Wayne McMillan, 80, of Ardmore are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Friday, September 17, 2021 at Rawhide Cowboy Church in Gene Autry with Bro. Trent Daniel officiating and Jase Riggs assisting. Interment will follow to Oswalt Cemetery. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Wilson.
Charles was born May 9, 1941 in Oswalt, OK to the late Mr. Virgil McMillan and Mrs. Faye Marie (Cox) McMillan. He departed from this life on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at his home in Ardmore.
Charles was raised in Oswalt where he attended school. He joined the U.S. Army out of high school serving honorably. Charles married the former Onita Ann Stonebarger on June 30, 1964 in Durant, OK. He attended Murray State College, Southeastern with a Bachelors of Science, Oklahoma University with a Masters of Education and University of Tulsa. Due to him being an educator and coach, they lived in several areas where he taught including Velma and Verden where he served as Principal. After retirement, in 1996 they made their home in Ardmore where he worked at the Methodist Church in Ardmore, Big Five and Valero.
Charles loved riding motorcycles of which he had many as well as a trike. He served numerous years as a member of Southern Cruisers Riding Club, where he was known as "Skullman". Charles was a member of the Crystal River Band for many years beginning with Donnell Cox, whom he considered a brother, in their early 20's. They played everywhere in the area, churches, schools and any function requested especially the Cox Reunions. Charles was a member of the Rawhide Cowboy Church of Gene Autry.
Preceded him in death were his parents; wife, Onita on August 6, 2018.
Charles is survived by his daughters, Jo McMillan and Sam Massey of Ardmore, Charla Osborne and husband Jonnie of Mannsville, and Melissa McMillan of Ardmore; step sisters, Joy Linn Alexander of Wilson and Gail Bennison of Los Colinas, TX ; grandchildren, Shawn, Kendra, Coty, James, JC, Christopher, Maranda, Jacie, Kam, Bentley, Kaleb, Dakota, Carlie; 20 great grandchildren; and by a host of other family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Dakota McCurdy, Christopher Battles, Kaleb Edwards, Kam Battles, JC Osborne III, and Charley Slayton. Honorary bearers will be Shawn McKinney, Jaylan Battles, and Bruce Elvington.
Visitation will be held 6-8 P.M. Thursday evening at Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Wilson.
