Services for Charlie George Burks, 89, of Wilson, are scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at the Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Wilson with Bro. Billy Holder officiating. Interment will follow at Reck Cemetery.

Charlie was born March 23, 1936, at Orr, OK, to the late Mr. Jewel Burks and Mrs. Laura Amanda (McGaughy) Burks. He went to his heavenly home Sunday morning, March 15, 2026, at his home in Wilson.

Charlie’s life was marked by hard work, devotion to family, and a wealth of skills that earned him the respect and admiration of those who knew him. Charlie began his educational journey at Zaneis, growing up in the close-knit community of Wilson. From a young age, he embraced responsibility, working as a farm hand for Lloyd Jackson—a role that instilled in him a deep appreciation for hard labor and the rewards it brings. His industrious nature was evident throughout his life, as he continued to build upon his experiences with a variety of roles. On June 20, 1959, Charlie married the love of his life, the former Ms. Pollie Mae Tucker, in Gainesville, Texas. Their union blossomed into a life shared with warmth and mutual support. The couple made their home in Ardmore where Charlie worked at Colverts, employing his mechanical skills and contributing through factory work. Their journey led them briefly to California, where Charlie took on the demanding job of a longshoreman, reflecting his versatile approach to work and life.

In 1963, Charlie and Pollie returned to Wilson, a place they called home for many years. Charlie began a long and distinguished career with Southerlands Well Service, dedicating 35 years to the company. Starting as a derrick hand, he later advanced to become a mechanic, showcasing his adaptability and deepening expertise. Outside of work, Charlie's passions reflected his vibrant and generous nature. He enjoyed team roping immensely, often inviting others to partake in ropings held at his home on Saturday nights. His love for the outdoors was shared with his brother-in-law, Sonny Tucker, with whom he frequently escaped to the lake for fishing and relaxation. An extraordinary jack of all trades, Charlie possessed a broad spectrum of abilities. In his later years, he continued to serve his community by planting, cutting, and baling hay, always eager to lend a hand where he could. More than just a hard worker, Charlie was a very smart man who took pleasure in sharing his knowledge and skills with others, leaving a legacy of wisdom and kindness.
