David Alan Harmon, 66, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026 at his home in Norman, Oklahoma. David was born on July 25, 1959 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Joel “Bud” Harmon and Loy Dean Harmon. He was raised as a country boy, spending all of his childhood in the Graham, Oklahoma area. David was fortunate to grow up with two brothers and two cousins, all of whom shared a strong bond and an onery nature. David attended school at both Graham and Fox, where he developed a passion for basketball. At an early age, David was already 6’1.5” tall (he always insisted on including the ½ inch). Not only was David tall, but he was also a talented player and a fierce competitor, eventually leading his team to the state championship game. In addition to being a great athlete, David was also a people person. He had a large group of friends, many of whom he has maintained relationships with over the years. David graduated from Fox High School in 1977. Shortly thereafter, he married former wife, Rebecca Weaver, and together they were blessed with two children, Natosha and Erik.

David built a successful career in the oilfield, working primarily in sales for companies such as Redman, National, and Omni. He thrived in this environment, due in part to his friendly personality and quick wit. David never met a stranger. Following the loss of his daughter, Natosha, in 2003, David dedicated much of his time to the Oklahoma Brain Tumor Foundation, providing support to other families facing similar challenges. In a time of great sorrow, David chose to channel his grief into something good. By counseling others in their weakest hour, he was able to heal himself and make a difference, a testament to his character and heart.

David’s love for his family was paramount, but his love for the University of Oklahoma was a close second. He has called Norman home for the last 25 years, often enjoying the sounds from the stadium right in his front yard. David was a devoted fan of all Sooner sports, and he had the ability to recite school history, players, stats, etc. on demand. Over the years, David accumulated a stunning collection of Sooner memorabilia, which covered every square inch of his home office. Most importantly, though, David was a man of faith. He read his Bible consistently and was always an active member of the congregation of any church he attended. No matter what David faced in life, he always kept the faith and finished the race with the firm and unwavering belief in Jesus as his lord and savior.

In 2019, David was diagnosed with cancer, a battle he bravely fought for many years with the support of his wife, Karen. Even in the grimmest of circumstances, David’s personality never diminished. He always maintained a positive attitude and continued cracking jokes, even at the very end. He never complained, and he never made himself a burden. His fight was an admirable one, indicative of the kind of man he was. David had a big presence and a soft heart. A true gentle giant. He will be remembered for his love for God, his family, and chasing Sooner Magic.

David was preceded in death by his mother, Loy Dean Harmon; daughter, Natosha Dawn Harmon; brother, Terry Harmon; and cousin, Roger Watkins.
