Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Wilson in cooperation with George J Carroll & Son Funeral Home in Gainesville, TX.

David was born October 9, 1969, at Ardmore, OK, to Mr. Joe Lynn Johnson and Mrs. Carolyn Kay (Gray) McKinnon. He departed this life Sunday, November 23, 2025, at his home in Valley View, TX.

David was raised in Wilson, OK by his parents, Jim and Carolyn McKinnon, who instilled in him a strong sense of integrity and devotion. David graduated with the Wilson High School class of 1987, marking the beginning of a journey that would be filled with service, love, and dedication. Following his graduation, David chose to serve his country by joining the United States Army. Throughout his service, he forged enduring friendships and developed a brotherhood that lasted a lifetime. As an Airborne Combat Engineer, David served both in the Army and the reserves for over a decade, including deployments in Iraq and participation in the Honduras campaign, where he earned the Bronze Star for his bravery and commitment. On April 3, 1993, David married the love of his life, the former Ms. Samantha Shuppert, in Gainesville, TX. Their union was one built on mutual respect and deep affection. Together, they settled in Valley View, where they created a warm and loving home, cherishing every moment they spent together. In his professional life, David made significant contributions to the underground and overhead utility construction sectors. In 2014, he took a bold step, founding his own company, Chinook Services, where he served as CEO, providing exceptional construction services to the community. Although he officially retired in 2022, his passion for work did not end, as he continued to keep himself busy with various pursuits. Retirement allowed David to explore new hobbies, enhancing his home life with cooking, cleaning, and, most importantly, spending quality time with his family. An avid hunter and fisherman, David found joy and solace in nature, yet nothing brought him greater happiness than the time he shared with his grandchildren. His love for them was profoundly evident and he cherished every moment with them. David passionately and generously gave of himself, often putting the needs of others before his own. He had an extraordinary ability to connect with people, offering help whenever he could and creating an environment filled with warmth and kindness.

Preceding him in death are his dad, Jim McKinnon and his father, Joe Lynn Johnson.
