Services for Don Musser, 85, of Burneyville, are scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Wilson with Jackie Hartman officiating. Interment will follow at Leon cemetery.
Don was born October 24, 1940, at Ardmore, OK to the late Mr. Skyles Curtis Musser and Mrs. Charlotte Loraine (Morgan) Musser. He departed this life October 21, 2026, in Gainesville, TX.
Don was raised in Dallas, Texas. He attended Bryan Adams High School, where he graduated with the class of 1958. He went on to attend the SMU Ranger Regiment and later Southeastern Oklahoma State University, where he majored in music. He also earned an additional degree in Industrial Arts, reflecting the range of his talents and interests. Don devoted much of his life to education. He began directing band at Bokchita and later served at Healdton, Walters, Frederick, and Oklahoma City Douglas. His work then took him to Dalhart, Texas, where he taught shop, and later to Channing, where he continued teaching until his retirement. Through the years, he shared both skill and encouragement with the many students whose lives he touched. While living in Dalhart, Don met the love of his life, the former Ms. Patricia Mitcham. They were married on December 30, 1977, in Durant. Together they made their home in Dalhart for three years before moving to Channing, and in 1993 they moved to their home place. Their marriage was a lasting partnership built over many years together. Don found joy in many pursuits. He played the saxophone and carried his love of music throughout his life. He was also a pilot and a scuba diver, and he enjoyed deep sea fishing. He especially loved spending time “messing with his cattle,” a simple pleasure that spoke to his deep connection to the land and the life he built.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Skyles and Charlotte Musser.
Survivors include his wife Patricia of the home; daughter, Susan Gunter of Leon; son, Will Musser and wife Nellie of Wilson; grandchildren, Ethan and Jerry Don Gunter, Whitney and Jack Musser; numerous other family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Steve Tucker, Clint Hartman, Timmy Nipp, Brandon Laxton, Jackson Dillon, and C.K. Kelly.
Honorary bearers are Curtiss Nipp, Donnie Nipp, Sam Barrick, David Hull, Lynn Henderson, Jack Morgan, and Jim Roluti.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M., Friday evening at the Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Wilson.
