Gerald Don Thompson

Gerald Don Thompson of Lone Grove, age 69, passed from this world on Friday, September 4, 2026, after a long illness and through God’s mercy. Gerald was born on December 18, 1956, in Gainesville, Texas. He was the first-born of Donald Drew Thompson and Fonnie Maxine Reeves. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home and Crematory.

Gerald grew up in several localities with most surrounding Gainesville, Texas and Marietta, Oklahoma. Later, he would expand his location to raise his children in Victoria and LaSalle, TX. Upon retirement, he would expand his residential location to include Lone Grove, OK where he resided until his passing. In 1977, Gerald was united in marriage to Vicki Jean Venglar. In 1998, Gerald married Linda Lynette Marek Esterak Esterak (Turner). In 2006, Gerald was united in marriage to Yolanda May Day. In 2014, Gerald began an unwavering bonded affection with Karen Kay Coffey whom he shared a home in Lone Grove, OK through his final breath. Upon receiving his GED, Gerald joined the Army. After a brief service with the Army, Gerald returned home and followed in his father’s footsteps into the oil field industry. He had a natural ability to critically think through mechanical failures, making him well skilled in solving equipment repair issues. He was skilled in vehicle repair, hydraulics, oil field equipment, and home repairs/projects. Gerald was charismatic, generous, adventurous, impulsive, and restless. Gerald would try to achieve some joy whenever and wherever he went, most will recall being led by him into some unforgettable fun situation. Gerald loved his family and made sure everyone received their share of his humor, to include deliberate mischievous acts to ensure joke success.

He left people laughing and smiling after being around him. Gerald and Vicki had two children together; however, they loved three children in the home. In addition to his own children, Gerald took on the role of “Dad” for his nephew, selflessly providing a home and love from his own existing family structure to Randy Joe Thompson. Gerald had a love of animals and the elderly. He would visit aging family members unexpectedly and typically with a sweet treat in hand at nursing homes. Gerald enjoyed music and a great two stepper. He ensured his mother and sisters had a partner if they wanted to dance.

Preceding in death are his parents and stepparents: Donald & Mary Karene Pruitt and Fonnie & Melvin Edmond Walker; daughter, Crystal Renae Thompson; sister, Fonoma (“Noma”) Dorene Powell; stepbrother, Michael Lee Pruitt; half-brother, Arnold Cornelius; stepbrother, Edmond Dale Walker; stepsister, Suzanne Walker; grandparents, Ervin Thomas Reeves and Pearl Omanda Harper; Andrew Madison Thompson and Mary Elizabeth Traw; Family Support Honorees: Lee Williams and Lany Buck of Wilson, OK; Crysti Ford of Lone Grove, OK; Richard & Sandra Longstreet of Aspen, TX; Cross Timbers Hospice.

He is survived by his life partner Karen Kay Coffey of Lone Grove, OK; son, Michael Don Thompson of Lone Grove, OK; sister, Linda Darlene Thompson of Wilson, OK; sister, Stacey Lynn Erm of Wilson, OK; two grandsons, Tyler Don Thompson of Victoria, TX; Dylan Don Thompson of Victoria, TX; granddaughter, Krystal Marie Thompson of Austin, TX; nephews, Aaron Lee Gray of Enid, OK; Nathan Lee Gray II of Waukomis, OK; Samuel Earl Lynn Edwards of Wilson, OK; Brandon Keith Bengfort of Ardmore, OK; Randall Joseph Thompson of Fox, OK; niece, Cassandra Lynn Bengfort of Albuquerque, NM; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins along with multiple survivors’ spouses/partners along with several great nieces and nephews, and family friends.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Friday, September 11, 2026, 6:00 pm at 2336 Hewitt Street in Wilson.
