It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. Gerald “Bud” Udell Young, Sr., age 93, of Wilson, who departed this life on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at the local nursing home in Wilson. Cremation service will be held through Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Wilson.
Bud was born on October 3, 1930, at Ft. Washita, OK, to the late Mr. David Hampton Young and Mrs. Mary Bell (Bamburg) Young. Raised in the Tishomingo area, he attended school there and at Cobb. Bud’s sense of duty led him to voluntarily join the United States Army during the Korean War, where he served honorably as a Light Vehicle Driver until his discharge on January 15, 1953. Upon returning home, Bud married the love of his life, Mrs. Louise Marie Sanders, with whom he built a life in Wilson. He dedicated many years to his career as a truck driver, working for various oilfield trucking companies, most recently hauling water for Brady’s Welding and Trucking out of Healdton. Bud’s commitment to his community was evident through his service on the Wilson City Council and as Mayor for two years. He was a proud life member of the Healdton Masonic Lodge #23 and Hewitt Lodge #89, and he contributed his time and effort to the Hewitt Bomar Point Cemetery Association for many years.
Bud is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved daughter Mary Eades, grandson, Gerald Allen Young, and his siblings: sisters, Erma Lee Bridgeman, LaVerne Seals, Frances Morrison, and Juanita Kale; brothers Perney Lamb, Albert Harold Young, and David M Young.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Louise of Wilson, sons John David Young of Lebanon, MO, Gerald Udell “Pete” Young, Jr. of Ardmore, and Louis and Stephen Young, both of Wilson; grandchildren, Nina Thayer and husband Shawn, and great granddaughter, Sheena Thayer; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Bud will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to family, community, and service. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the Wilson Nursing Home Staff, for the exceptional care they provided Bud during his time there.
Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date.
