James Henry Briscoe

March 23, 1948 — July 21, 2025

Mr. James Henry "Jim" Briscoe

We regret to announce the passing of James Henry "Jim" Briscoe, age 77, who died at 8:43 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2025, at the Veterans Administration Hospital.

A graveside service, with military honors, will be held at Graham Cemetery on Friday, August 1, 2025, at 11:00, with Pastor Dan Stewart officiating. Services are under the direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home.

Jim was born on March 23, 1948, in Artesia, New Mexico, to William Jasper “Bill” Briscoe Sr. and Frances Marie Hope. He was raised in Carter, Jefferson, and Stephens Counties, attending school in Wilson, Fox, and Velma.

In 1966, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army, rising to the rank of Sergeant. During his service, he was deployed to Vietnam and South Korea. While in Vietnam, he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star, along with several other commendations for his bravery and dedication.

In early 1971, he returned stateside and served with pride in the Honor Guard. Following his honorable discharge in September 1971, Jim returned to Oklahoma. In 1972, he married Judy Dunigan of Wilson in Gainesville, Texas. They were blessed with one daughter, Tina Marie. Jim and Judy later divorced but remained connected for their daughter.

Jim joined his brothers, J.R. and Sammy, at Bullard’s Oilfield Services in Wilson, Oklahoma, and spent over 30 years as a truck driver. In 1989, he moved to Edmond, Oklahoma, where he settled with his life partner, Suzan Stone. Together, they raised four children: John Simon, Jeremy Taylor, Kayla Rae, and Michael James.

Jim retired from Sue Estelle Trucking in 2010. In retirement, he rediscovered his love for country-western dancing, cold beers with friends, and a new passion for video games. He especially enjoyed gathering with family, firing up the grill, and creating lasting memories filled with laughter and good food.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill (1991) and Marie (1966); his brothers Robert Barry Briscoe (1967), William Jasper Briscoe Jr. (2022), and Samuel Leslie "Sammy" Briscoe (2015); his sister Patricia Ann Jubb (2024); nephews Tommy Ray Kirkland (1992) and James Jones (2022); niece Cynthia Ann Kirkland (1984); and his first grandson, William Austin Hart (1994).

Jim is survived by his life partner, Suzan Stone of the home; two daughters, Tina Marie Hart and her husband Mick of Kingfisher, Kayla Rae Daniels and her husband Rusty of Yukon; three sons, John Simon Stone and his wife Morgan of Denison, Texas, Jeremy Taylor Stone of Edmond, and Michael James Briscoe and his wife Lauren of Chickasha. He also leaves behind eight beloved grandchildren: Lindsey, Erin, Reese, Lynzi, Cheyenne, Evie, Oliver, and Raylan; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, Jim requested that donations be made in his memory to a veteran’s organization such as the Wounded Warrior Project, a local VFW Hall, or a local Boy Scout troop.
