Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Wilson.
John was born on August 10, 1946 in Healdton, Oklahoma, to the late Olin and Myrtle (Gober) DeLano. John (“Johnny”) was born in the house that he and his four siblings grew up in. He shed his earthly tent on February 1, 2024 at the home he shared with the love of his life, his Blue Angel, Carolyn. He crossed into the presence of the Lord in the way he always wanted: listening to his family singing hymns.
Johnny grew up on his parents' farm in Healdton. He made many happy memories there as a child, and later as Daddy and Poppy. Johnny decided to make Carolyn Murray his wife the first time he saw her. She was in the sixth grade, and he was in the eighth. They were married December 17, 1965, in Wirt, OK. They made their first home in Tishomingo, where they both continued their education. John went on to graduate from the University of Oklahoma School of Pharmacy in 1969. They returned to the Ardmore area following his graduation and started their family. Over the years John worked as a pharmacist, while Carolyn devoted herself to being a loving wife and Momma to their two daughters. Together they opened Lone Grove Drug in July of 1979, working side by side for many years. They both coached softball, and the store sponsored community teams. John was a strong supporter of the school and community.
Johnny was a creative and talented man and enjoyed many hobbies and perfected many crafts over the years: macramé, drawing/painting, gardening, wood turning, wood carving and wood burning. He was so proud of his family and talked about them to anyone who would listen. John was a loving and attentive father who spent many hours helping with school projects. He was a member of the Lone Grove Church of Christ.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Olin and Myrtle DeLano, and his brother, Bill DeLano.
Survivors include his loving wife, Carolyn; daughters Misti McAlister and husband Jonathan of Lone Grove, and Carrie DeLano of McAlester; brother Gale and wife Ginny of Irvington, Kentucky; sisters Loretta Way of Healdton and Janie Simon and husband Guy of Healdton; grandchildren Kennedy LaMascus and husband Parker, Trent McAlister, Makadyn DeLano, Brodie DeLano and Landon DeLano; numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
