It is with deep sorrow and blessed assurance the family shares the passing of Johnnie Lee (Robinson) Grundy into the arms of her Savior on October 10, 2025 surrounded by her family who sang her into Heaven.
Graveside services for Johnnie are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. on Friday, October 17, 2025, at New Velma Cemetery, with Rev. Glynn Baker officiating. The services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Velma Chapel.
Johnnie was born on May 30, 1947, in Marlow, Oklahoma, to the late Alex "Buster" Edmond Robinson and Opal Ilene (Walker) Robinson. A proud graduate of Velma-Alma High School, Class of 1965, Johnnie married her beloved husband, Temple Grundy, on July 3, 1965, in Wichita Falls, Texas. She was a dedicated homemaker and community leader, serving on the City Council for eight years and becoming the first female Native American Mayor of Velma. Additionally, Johnnie contributed to her community by directing the town's Emergency Medical Services (EMS). She was an active member of the Ratliff City Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School and Children's Church at Countryside Freewill Baptist Church in Velma and was affectionately known as "Nonnie" by her granddaughters and many children in the community. Johnnie had a passion for reading, gardening, and playing the piano, a skill she mastered through self-teaching. She took immense pride in her native heritage, belonging to the Choctaw Tribe.
Johnnie is preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Jarid Letterman; brothers, Preston, Roy, and Ricky Robinson; sisters, Faye England and Jenny Lin Cox; as well as nephews Wayne Lynn Collins, Joshua England, Alton Teryl Lawrence, and Darrell Davis Bryant; grandniece, Adysen Willis; and brothers-in-law, Larry Orum and Buddy England.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Temple Grundy; children, Temple Lee Grundy and wife Suzy of Marlow, and Misty Lyn Lewis and husband Mike of Duncan; granddaughters, Chelsey Grundy, Sidney Suttles and husband Robert, and Emily Lewis; sisters, Audene Robinson and husband Jimmy Dale, Pam Orum, and Mildred Work and husband Joe; numerous cherished nieces and nephews; along with a vast network of family and friends.
Pallbearers will include Mike Lewis, Alex Robinson, Robert Suttles, Payton Keithley, Jeremy Harris, and Eddy England. Honorary bearers will be Aiden Robinson and Dyrek Willis.
Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Alexander Gray Velma Chapel.
