Milo - Home Going services for Mrs. Judith “Judy” Carol (Mitchell) Johnston, 76, of Lone Grove, are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at the Milo Baptist Church, with Rev. Mike Johnston officiating. Interment will follow at Milo Cemetery. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Wilson.
Judy was born May 13, 1947, in Checotah OK. to the late Mr. Jesse Afton Mitchell and Mrs. Lillie Jane (Vandiver) Mitchell. She departed from this life Sunday, November 26, 2023, in Oklahoma City.
Judy was initially raised in Checotah before moving to Nocona, TX and then later to Wichita Falls, TX where her family settled, graduating high school from there. That following Summer after graduation, she visited family at Lindsay, OK and while staying there she met the love of her life. Seven months later, on December 26, 1964, at Wichita Falls First Baptist Church, she married Mr. Carl Johnston. They resided in Lindsay, Sherman, Gainesville, before finally making their way to Whitesboro, TX, where they lived for 18 years. Carl and Judy then moved to Lone Grove where they've enjoyed residing for the last 32 years. Judy has always worked in the medical field as some assistant or nurse's aide. After their kids were grown and out of school, Judy decided to go back to school herself attending nursing school at Southern Vo-Tech of Ardmore. She soon earned her LPN certification and awarded Valedictorian of her class. Afterwards she was employed for Mercy as an LPN for many years. Judy loved sewing, camping, and travelling during her retirement all over the U.S. Judy was a member of the Milo Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Sanford Ray Mitchell.
Judy is survived by her loving husband, Carl Johnston of the home; daughter, Dana Maness and husband Chance of Wichita Falls, TX; son, David Johnston of Kemah, TX; Jane Jackson of The Woodlands, TX; grandchildren, Mark Rich and wife Nikki, Cameron Johnston and wife Karla, Joshua Robinett and wife Presley, Jesse Johnston and wife Lacy, Jake Hillard and wife Amy, Emily Johnston, and Jennifer Johnston; 8 great grandchildren; 2 fur babies, Lizzy and Gracie whom went everywhere with them; numerous other family, church family and a host of friends.
Pallbearers are Mark Rich, Cameron Johnston, Joshua Robinett, Jesse Johnston, and Jake Hillard.
Family visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 5-7 P.M. at the Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Wilson.
