Wilson - Mr. Leslie "Les" Royal Thoroughman, of Wilson, departed this life on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at his residence near Wilson at the age of 66 years, 11 months, and 5 days. Funeral Services will be held 2:00P.M. Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel of Wilson with Rev. Mike Johnston Officiating. Interment will follow in the Hewitt Cemetery in Wilson. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Wilson.
Les was born on January 30, 1955 at the Husky Clinic in Ringling to the late Mr. Royal Dean Thoroughman and Mrs. Lola Mae (Dewbre) Thoroughman.
Les lived in this area his entire life. He attended Wilson Schools and graduated with the Class of 1973. He retired from Michelin in tire building as a Drum Major. Les loved the outdoors hunting and fishing. He enjoyed farming, bailing hay for many local farmers and raising cattle. When he wasn't working he could be found watching an old western or visiting with his family. He adored his two grandchildren Natalee and Rhett. Les had most recently been employed with the Wilson Salt Water Disposal. He and Ramona "Sissy" (Pemberton) Powell were united in marriage on December 21, 2000 in Ardmore. Les served as a Wilson City Council Member for 8 years and was a member of the St. Judes Children Hospital Charities. Les would always take time to help others whether it was moving trailer houses with his tractor or just visiting. He was of the Baptist faith. Les was a hard working man that had worked his life away.
Preceding him in death are his parents; step son Bodey Powell; and a sister, Rita Mullins.
He is survived by his wife Ramona "Sissy" Thoroughman of the home; sons, Laramye Thoroughman and Jessica of Wilson, Ty Thoroughman of Wilson, and Cody Powell of Ringling; sisters, Lavon Vossler and husband Travis of Lakewood, TX, Beverly Webb of Healdton, and Darlena Gravitt of Wilson; two grandchildren, Natalee and Rhett; nephews, James Newell, Billy Carter Newell, Chad Smith, Catlin Gravitt and Rodney Mullins; niece, Kaye Mullins Stringer; Many other relatives and a host of friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Cody Powell, Ty Thoroughman, Laramye Thoroughman, James Newell, Charlie Griffith, and Tommy Orr.
Honorary pallbearers are Starky Davila, Keith Miles, Les Hacker, Billie Newell, Gary Whitener, and Kenny Smith.
Visitation will be 6-8:00 P.M. Monday, January 10, 2021 at Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Wilson.
