Graveside services with military honors for Mr. Leslie Thomas Mayes, age 80, of Lone Grove, are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. on Friday, March 20, 2026, at West Memorial Cemetery in Lone Grove. The service will be officiated by Darryl Howard and is under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Wilson.
Leslie Thomas Mayes was born on May 7, 1945, in Marietta, Oklahoma, to the late Olie Mayes and Anna (Blackmon) Mayes. He passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026, at his home in Lone Grove, surrounded by his family.
Raised in Marietta, Leslie graduated from high school before enlisting in the United States Army, where he served honorably for three years. On December 19, 1969, in Marietta, he married Mary Joetta Poe, who was his devoted partner throughout their life together. In 1973, they established their home in Lone Grove, where they raised their children.
Leslie had a dedicated work history, initially employed at the Pants Factory in Marietta, followed by a lengthy career at the Michelin Tire Plant, where he worked for 35 years until his retirement in 2007. He took pleasure in yard work and was an avid supporter of OU football. Above all, Leslie was a family man, consistently making his family the center of his life. He cherished attending his sons' football games and held a deep love for his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bunky Mayes; and sisters, Elsie Allison, Patsy Allen, and Mary Roberts.
Leslie is survived by his wife, Mary; his children, James Mayes and his wife Rhonda, Sara Mayes, and Eric Mayes with his partner Joe Joe; brother, Olie Mayes, Jr.; grandchildren Dalton Mayes, Kaylan Mayes, and Dakota Mayes; honorary grandchildren Louis Alverez, Michael McCune, Mavrick McCune, and Memphis McCune; sister-in-law Mildred Walker and her husband Russell; brother-in-law Vernon Poe; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of family and friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Wilson. Memories and condolences may be shared online at www.alexandergrayfh.com.
