Ardmore

Graveside services for Mr. Magdaleno "Neno" Alvarez, aged 74, of Ardmore, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 P.M. at McAlister Cemetery, with Deacon Juan Jimenez officiating. The services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Wilson.

Magdaleno Alvarez was born on August 6, 1951, in Zacatecas, Mexico, to the late Mr. Guadalupe Alvarez and Mrs. Fransica Rios Alvarez. He passed away on April 8, 2026, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Raised and educated in Mexico, Magdaleno later relocated to California, where he met and married Juanita Ruelas on December 18, 1971, in Los Angeles. The couple moved to Oklahoma in 1976 and together raised two sons. Magdaleno’s career included employment with Phillips 66 until its closure, followed by work at Hu-Don Manufacturing, and later pursuing landscaping and carpentry independently—fields he enjoyed deeply.

Magdaleno proudly became a United States citizen on September 6, 2002, an achievement he accomplished independently. He learned English through television programs such as Home Improvement and interactions with others.

A man of many interests, Magdaleno had a passion for woodworking, enjoyed supporting his grandchildren by attending their school and sporting events, and was a devoted fan of University of Oklahoma football, often sharing the experience with his son, JoeJoe. He also took pleasure in simple moments such as sitting on his front porch drinking coffee while watching his grandchildren play, and he enjoyed watching Mexican rodeos and soap operas.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Alvarez is survived by his wife, Juanita; sons Luis Alvarez and his wife Angelique, and Jose Alvarez Mayes and his husband Eric; siblings Jesus Alvarez Rios, Guadalupe Alvarez Rios, Veronica Alvarez Serna, Martha Alvarez Cuevas, and Socorro Alvarez Martinez; grandchildren Selena, Dominique, and Luis; great-grandchildren Luis, Michael, Memphis, Maverick, and Tiana; along with many other family members and friends.

Pallbearers will include Jose Alvarez, Luis Alvarez Sr., Christopher Harmon, Jonathan Higginbotham, Luis Alvarez Jr., and Luis Alvarez I. Honorary bearers will be Michael McCune, Mikey McCune, Memphis McCune, and Maverick McCune.

Visitation will take place on Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Wilson. Online condolences may be shared at www.alexandergrayfh.com.
