Mary "Maggie" Magalene (McLain) Tipps

December 13, 1929 — September 5, 2025

Graveside services for Mary Tipps, 95, of Silver City, NM, are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Saturday, September 13, 2025, at the Ringling Memorial Cemetery with Mike Hannah officiating. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Ringling.

Mary Magalen (McLain) Tipps was born in Ringling, Oklahoma on December 13, 1929, to Wirt T. and Nevie Ora (Richardson) McLain. She would call the nearby community of Mountain Home her home for many of her childhood years. It was at Mountain Home where she attended school and played with numerous cousins and earned the affections of a young man named Ralph Donald Tipps.

Mary (Maggie) and Ralph were married November 23, 1948, and were inseparable for the next 31 years. Together they created a warm, loving, home for their son, Steve. They made an eternal impact not only on their children, but also on their grandchildren.

That loving home extended to countless others because of Mary’s hospitality and generosity. That hospitality extended to other groups including the Sack Lunch where she and others from the Fillmore Church of Christ prepared and distributed meals.

Mary was very generous. Growing up in the poor community of Mountain Home, she knew what it was like to live without essential items.

Mary went to cosmetology school and opened Tipps Beauty Salon in 1960 in Fillmore, California. Ralph & Mary Tipps and dear friends Russel and Doris Fox formed the corporation Tipsy Fox in 1969 and opened their first store in Fillmore, California. She was one of the first women in the Fillmore Lions Club and the first woman President of the Fillmore Lions Club. She was also active in the Fillmore Soroptimist, and the Fillmore Chamber of Commerce for many years. Mary also sold antiques with niece Sandi Ward at the Train Depot. Mary had many hobbies including cooking, spending time with her family and collecting antiques.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, husband Ralph, grandson, Cody Tipps, brother, Ira McLain, sisters, Ola Taylor, Ethel Legan, Audrey Hammons, and Teressa Provence.

Mary is survived by her son Steve of Fillmore California, granddaughter April and husband Sean of Silver City, New Mexico and grandson Justin Tipps and wife Emily of Simi Valley, California. Grandchildren: Lorin Conley, husband Clade, Natalie Hastings and partner Nico Stellar, and Raylan Don Tipps. Great Grandchildren Zayden Hastings, Zaleena Hastings, Zayla Conley, Zephyrus Conley.

Pallbearers: Justin Tipps, Sean Hastings, Clade Conley, Dustin Hammons, Chad Puckett and Zach Hairod.

Honorary Pallbearers are her brother-in-laws Allen Taylor and Roy Provence.

Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, prior to service beginning at noon.
