Richard "Rick" Andrew Sloan, 54, passed away on May 2, 2025, at his residence in Healdton. Cremation services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Wilson.
Rick was born on June 24, 1970, in Farmington, New Mexico, to Mr. Thomas "Tom" Melvin Sloan and Mrs. Alice Vernon (Womack) Ortiz. Raised primarily on a Navajo Reservation in Aneth, Utah, until 1979, he later moved to Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Rick completed his high school education in Meridian, Mississippi. After relocating to Barstow, California, and soon after he moved to this area. He dedicated most of his professional life to the oilfield, initially as a truck driver, and later with B&C Backhoe Services, where he skillfully operated heavy machinery.
A passionate motorcycle enthusiast, Rick had a particular love for Harley Davidson motorcycles. He was known for his infectious humor, playful spirit, and the joy he brought to those around him. He cherished his dog, Charley, and was regarded affectionately by his friends and family for his jovial nature and pranking ways.
Rick is preceded in death by his mother, Alice Ortiz, who passed away in 2020. He is survived by his father, Thomas "Tom" Sloan, and his wife Mary of Wilson; his sisters, Dianna Rowland and her husband Andy of Bethel Island, California, Lisa Taylor and her husband Reece of Lake Wales, Florida; as well as Kaylea Hazen and her daughter Kinley of Norman, Oklahoma. He is also remembered by a host of other family and friends.
