Rita Faye Fowler, aged 83, peacefully departed this life on June 3, 2025, at a healthcare facility in Ardmore. Private services will be held under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Velma, with interment taking place at the Old Velma Cemetery.
Born on October 19, 1941, in Ardmore to Exie Barnett and Audrey (Gillepsie) Lehanbauer, Rita was raised in Ratliff City and attended Fox schools, graduating from high school in 1959. She married James Fowler, and together they were blessed with four children: Debbie, Darla, Daunja, and James.
Rita dedicated over twenty years to counseling at the Healdton Alternative School and Jetty Counseling in Ardmore, making a lasting impact on many lives until her retirement. She had a passion for raising Chihuahua dogs and cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren, often bringing joy and laughter through dancing and singing. Her unwavering commitment to her family was evident in all she did.
Rita is preceded in death by her daughter, Darla Fowler.
She is survived by her children: Debbie Reeves-McCarty and husband Bobby of Calera, Daunja Humphrey and husband Shawn of Ardmore, and James Fowler of Calera. Her legacy also includes her beloved grandchildren: Michael Dunman, Marcus Reeves-McCarty, Mary France, Charlene Embry, Debra Dunman, Callie Cantwell, Cassie Cantwell, Lina Castellanos, Gabriela Castellanos, Courtney Griffin, Kira Fowler, Alysha Fowler, Lilliana Fowler, and Randall Fowler, as well as 22 great-grandchildren and numerous extended family and friends.
