Roy Wagers, born on February 8, 1935, in Clay County, Kentucky, to the late Dutt Wagers and Dora Mae (Murray) Wagers, peacefully departed this life on Monday, April 27, 2026, in Ardmore.
Roy spent his early childhood in Kentucky before moving to Kingsport, Tennessee, at the age of eight. In 1955, he joined the United States Air Force and was transferred to Ardmore Air Force Base. It was there that he met his beloved wife, Martha Ann Stewart. They were united in marriage on May 16, 1956, at Graham Baptist Church. Following their relocation to Goldsboro, North Carolina, Roy received his honorable discharge in 1957, and the couple returned to Oklahoma. Soon after, Roy joined the Oklahoma National Guard, where he served honorably until 1962.
Roy dedicated much of his career to the oilfields, initially working as a drilling rig operator and later as a fisherman for ACME Tool until 1986. He continued his work in the oil industry until his retirement in 2005.
A devoted supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, Roy was active in the Healdton troop before transferring to Wilson Troop #43. He faithfully led and supported scouting efforts, including the construction of the new Scout Hall in Wilson. Roy attended multiple National Jamborees held in Iowa, Indiana, and Tennessee, as well as the National Order of the Arrow Conference. He was honored with the Vigil recognition from the Order of the Arrow and served as a sponsor for Camp Simpson from 1992 to 2009, contributing to numerous construction projects.
Roy and Martha were dedicated members of Bethel Baptist Church, where Roy played a significant role in building the Family Life Center. In his later years, Roy became a member of Healdton First Baptist Church, further demonstrating his commitment to his faith and community.
His wife Martha preceded him in death on Dec. 9, 2020; also preceding him in death were his parents; sisters, Georgie, Martha Ellen, Nettie, Ollie and Lona; brothers, Elmer, Clyde, H.S., Otis and Doug, Jr.
