Interment will follow at Simon Cemetery. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Wilson.
Bill was born October 22, 1949, at Simon, to the late Mr. George William Russell and Mrs. Parlee Delcena (Nipp) Russell. He departed this life Friday, June 6, 2025, at his home in Leon.
Bill was a proud graduate of Leon High School, finishing his studies in 1967. Throughout his life, he dedicated himself to his work, primarily as a mechanic and in the oilfield, demonstrating a strong work ethic and commitment to his profession. His time as a bus mechanic at Turner Schools was a notable chapter in his career, along with his role as a Rig Watcher, through which he embraced the essence of a country lifestyle. Beyond his professional endeavors, Bill had a deep passion for life in the countryside, which was evident in the simple joys he cherished. He found great pleasure in raising chickens, an activity that provided him immense satisfaction. Bill had a special love for playing dominos, a game that brought friends and family together in friendly competition and laughter. In the smaller moments of life, Bill had a fondness for chocolate ice cream, often enjoying it as his supper, a testament to his ability to find joy in simplicity. His greatest joy, however, came from spending time with his beloved grandkids, prioritizing their company and creating lasting memories that will be cherished by those who knew him. Bill's life was a tapestry woven with dedication, hard work, and a deep love for family and simple pleasures. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
